Welsh Liberal Democrats select candidate for Cardiff West12.00.00am GMT Tue 12th Jan 2010 Cardiff West Liberal Democrats have selected Rachael Hitchinson as their candidate to fight the general election in Cardiff West. Rachael Hitchinson, an experienced campaigner, who will contest the seat currently held by Labour, said: "The Labour Party have let down the people of Cardiff West, and indeed the rest of the country. The economy is in tatters, the gap between rich and poor is greater than ever before, and the health service is failing - Cardiff West deserves better. "The Liberal Democrats have been growing steadily in Cardiff West in recent years. With Labour discredited after thirteen years of failure and the Conservatives calls for change ringing increasingly hollow, I'm confident that more and more people in Cardiff West will be looking to the Liberal Democrats for the fresh start we need." Chair of Cardiff West Liberal Democrats, Gareth Aubrey expressed his support for Rachael's selection: "I'm delighted that Rachael is to be our candidate in what is sure to be the most important general election in my lifetime. I've worked with Rachael for a number of years and I know that she will be an outstanding Member of Parliament for Cardiff West if elected."
